A Getaway In The Back Of Your House: Having A Picnic At Home Becomes The Best Part Of Your Week

A Getaway In The Back Of Your House: Having A Picnic At Home Becomes The Best Part Of Your Week

The first place where your mind goes when you hear the word picnic is somewhere slightly more cinematic than your backyard. You probably imagine a park with green grass and patches of coloured flowers, or maybe even a field close to a forest. But you don’t consider your home to be the ideal place for a picnic with your loved one. But maybe if you give it some thought, you might see the potential. A soft blanket, a breeze that lets you feel the smell of the flowers you planted, and something tasty to eat for the occasion. Your backyard might not be the ideal spot for a picnic now, but if you give it some attention, it might become your favorite place for this occasion. It’s time to shift your approach and step outside your comfort zone. Having a picnic isn’t about the place but about setting the scene and spending time with your favorite human in the world.

Will You Have A Picnic Or Just Eat Outside?

When you’re having a picnic, you are slowing down, taking your time to enjoy the food, cherish the moment, and enjoy the atmosphere. If you’re just eating outside, it’s a functional moment; you take the food to the designated space, might even be a little distracted from everything you did today, and hurry to wash the dishes so you can go on with your day.

So you need to answer this question so you know which mood you want to create. Do you want to go for a relaxed and quiet setting, playful and family-friendly, or maybe even a little romantic? You might even want to bring your favorite playlist or create a brand new one if you are having a picnic with your loved one. So decide before starting to plan.

Is Your Backyard Ready For A Picnic?

The last thing you want is to spend half a day cooking, putting everything in the basket, taking the blanket out, and finding a garden filled with shrubs, a dusty patio, and no place where to sit. So let’s talk a little bit about the state of your yard because it sets the mood. It’s an active character in your story that can make or break the atmosphere. Have a look at the grass, is it too long to lie the blanket comfortably? Does it feel uneven and put the plates with food at danger to spill over? Maybe it’s a better idea to not have the picnic on the lawn and move to the patio?

Have Your Picnic on the Patio

You might not want to distress the grass for the picnic, or you might not have enough room on the grass to lay the blanket and all the goodies you want to enjoy. Well, you can turn your attention to the patio because it’s definitely a picnic-worthy space. A well-designed patio will provide you with the ideal setting for enjoying a meal outdoors, without worrying that you’d damage the grass, dealing with uneven ground, or having to face unexpected weather changes. Considering it’s the beginning of summer and many picnic days await you, some thoughtful picnic renovations should be considered to transform an ordinary outdoor space into a welcoming spot where relaxation and comfort come naturally. Think about adding custom patio covers to take the experience a step further and enjoy some shade during the hot summer afternoons. They might even shelter you from less predictable weather. Yes, the patio is usually considered an outdoor area dedicated to gathering, but why not use it for other purposes? Like a spontaneous picnic area for a date with your loved ones, or a nice brunch with your friends.

Do You Sit On A Blanket Or Prefer Something Else?

The thing you’re sitting on for the picnic matters more than you think, so you cannot throw on whatever blanket you find around the house. Not any blanket will stay when a breeze flutters by. Think functionality and comfort when you set the location for the picnic. A think blanket will do the trick because it will prevent you from feeling the harsh surface underneath. You can even bring a couple of cushions from inside to make the entire setting more comfortable. And if you want to go the extra mile, get some layering, yes, you heard right, layering because as with dressing up, layering makes everything look more interesting.

Do You Want To Become A Chef For The Picnic?

This is where most people overcomplicate things because planning a picnic on the patio offers them access to the kitchen, and they start making a list of multiple dishes they want to cook. But the ideal picnic often doesn’t imply the perfect presentation, and the menu isn’t depicted from a magazine. You don’t want to feel like you’re working; you want to feel like you’re relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. So keep it simple! This is the best piece of advice one can offer when planning a picnic. Simple sandwiches and some snacks will do the trick. Don’t forget about the bottle of wine and a delicious dessert you can buy from the local pastry or maybe some fruits.

Now, Let’s Get To The Small Details That Make It Special

Let’s allow some magic to sneak into planning the picnic. Planning the perfect picnic shouldn’t be defined as a big gesture, but a mix of multiple small ones. As mentioned earlier, create a playlist in advance, add your favorite songs, or maybe songs that match the theme for the picnic if you have some snacks inspired by a specific cuisine. Bring real glasses from the house, so you can pour the bubbly champagne in something that is and feels like the real deal. And last but not least, take your time to enjoy this moment. Really. Do not rush, do not check your phone every 5 minutes, or if possible, leave it in the house. And don’t think about what’s next. Stay grounded in this moment. You’re here with your loved one and are grateful for the present moment.

Have Picnics More Often

The backyard is the perfect layout, so why postpone the picnic until you have time to reach your favorite spot in the middle of the forest? This is a no-pressure picnic you can have every time you feel like you want to spend some good time with your loved one.
